Jodi Rutherford (Katie McGrath) is a classic beauty who aspires to become a famous film actress, but instead leads the simple life of a public school teacher in Britain. When the opportunity arises to portray “Johanna Willemse” in a Boere war epic, she finally has a chance to do something extraordinary with her life.
In an attempt to prove herself to the film’s director, Daniel Taylor (Gil Bellows), who also happens to be her lover, she embarks on a journey to South Africa to prepare for the film’s upcoming auditions.
Her journey is not as simple as she imagined, resulting into a comedy of errors leading her to diamond-in-the-rough Free State farmer, Kobus Willemse (Bok van Blerk). Zooming in on the fact that Kobus bears the same surname as her heroin character, she begs him to take her under his wing and teach her about what it means to be a Boer.
Kobus is focused on saving the family farm from bankruptcy and has no time to waste by entertaining a British lady’s fantasy of being an actress. Jodi however manages to convince him of her proposition by passing it off as a business transaction with great potential. Jodi and Kobus cultures clash, they have opposing ideologies, their upbringing was drastically different and their timing is not ideal. Yet the dynamics of their relationship changes as they get to know each other.
To complicate Kobus and Jodi’s newfound affection for each other, Daniel Taylor, arrives on the scene with a proposition that forces Jodi to make a very difficult decision…
